This Friday night there will be some good shit going down in Queensland’s humble ‘Garden City’ of Toowoomba. For real. Have you seen that place recently? More street art than the BrisVegas and plants for days. And, in more recent years, super cool art shows. This Friday talented typography babe and good pal Leona Fietz is opening her first solo show, ‘Future Proof’, at No Comply gallery and you can bet we’ll be there.
Leona is a Brisbane-based illustrator, designer and self taught typographer. After completing her study in graphic design and jumping between full time creative studio jobs, she recently made the leap to freelance life. Her playful, hand-rendered aesthetic has featured in group shows and publications nationally.
For ‘Future Proof’, Leona uses gouache and paper to respond to the bossy type-based modern mantras that saturate our social media feeds. She has created a constructive and uplifting oasis, like a cheeky little post-it note to the self. Reminders of self-care and reflection, and ways to keep the future self healthy. Simple, honest phrases are paired with pastel palettes, patterned textures and forms to create the works. Exploring themes like circular energy, optimism and humour in our daily life, Leona’s thoughtful and skilfully executed letters stir opportunities for self-reflection and a tongue-in-cheek giggle.
‘Future Proof’ opens at No Comply this Friday 18th March from 7-9PM. Beers and dumplings will seal the deal for a night of positive vibes and good times. More information here. See you there!
