Here’s why we love the new Pharrell x Adidas Superstar Supercolor shoes and no, it’s not just because they are pretty. So, late last year when Pharrell shared that infamous sneaky snap to his Instagram of himself sitting in a circle of his rumoured collaboration shoes with Adidas, the world did exactly as we all expected it to, and the internet blew its shit up. We must admit, although we loved the colours and definitely planned on nabbing ourselves a pair, we didn’t totally get what the hype was about. I mean, if you want colour, look at our beautifully designed socks amiright?
So the hype died down, the waiting game set in and when these Supercolor beauties were finally announced, we were taken aback by the statement that Pharrell gave regarding the launch. “Supercolor is a celebration of equality through diversity. With 50 colours of the Superstar, everybody will be able to select his or her colour….With every shoe treated exactly the same, all colours are equal.” This statement really touched our soul. I mean, I don’t know about you guys but we were really worried that not all the shoes were being treated equally. Shoe inequality is a thing apparently, but not with the new super colour shoes it seems. To reinforce this powerful message all of the colourful kicks are branded on the side with the word “equality”, how’s that for taking a stand right?
Okay, all jokes aside, and ignoring the obvious insane amounts of cheese in that statement, we actually kind of like the colours and dig the concept of completely unisex shoes. We made Odd Pears to be a genderless celebration of life, colour, creativity and fun and it’s nice to see the big guys starting to step up to the plate and do the same.
